  1. Artem did a great job explaining the TV show called “Voice” and described the character of Christina Aguilera. What’s more, you introduced the show at the beginning and linked Christina’s characteristics with three articles (by Marcellus, Carlin and Winfrey and Dubrofsky separately) clearly. According to your presentation and your analysis paper, now I understand how Christina acts in the exclusively masculine environment and why both male and female contestants seem to view Aguilera as a role model.

However, there still exist two demerits you should be careful. Firstly, In the Marcellus’s article “Office Machine, Office Wife”, the author suggests that although the secretary is seen as an office wife whose duties on the job and relationship to her male boss mirror ideas about the duties of a wife to her husband, she is still humbler than her male boss and obedient to him. You only explained her superficially strong personality through your describing “her perfect combination of sexuality and productivity makes her an ideal‘office wife ’especially for male contestants” but did not take care and linked the real situation of office wife in the article. Secondly, you did analyze each article carefully but did notsuggest how the peer-reviewed journal article “The Bachelor” you picked complement the two articles we have read to analyze the character.

All in all, your paper is certainly a great one and easy to understand.

  2. Hey Artem, you did a awesome job on my favorite singer, Christina Aguilera, when I in the middle school. And I love this show, the Voice as well, it’s so good and emotional sometimes. I like your introduction on going over what’s this show is about and Christina’s role as a judge. I think even though if someone never seem the show before, but by reading your demonstration and description. They would definitely knows what’s going on.
I really love the analysis that you chose. You select Marchellus(2011) that suggest that woman suppose to be man’s worker and labor. But I learned from your analysis that Christina is really independent and she love to help both female and male contestant to advance to the next level. And indeed, even though she is a mother of one, but she is still got that attractive identity to all the male.
But, I think you could improve the last two paragraph by providing more examples of how Christina treat female contestant different than the male contestants. If you have more information, then it would be done better.
overall, I really enjoy reading your paper on my idol Christina, good job Artem!

  3. Artem, your paper is super organized and you present your ideas very clearly. Christina Aguilera is a fascinating character to analyze, so I really enjoyed reading your paper.

In the introduction and context section you make it easy to understand what The Voice is all about. I like how you start your analysis by first explaining the main points of the article, and then adding your own analysis. The examples you give always support your argument. I learned from your paper that Aguilera plays a lot of roles that you’ve identified: office wife, sex object, iron maiden.

The Dubrofsky article on The Bachelor was a great selection. You used it well to analyze how Aguilera behaves effusively with women but pragmatically with men. Reading your paper I also gained a better understanding of the “iron maiden” concept. Aguilera acts out sometimes and says or does things that are a little bit shocking. I don’t quite understand it but your explanation that she is flexing her “iron maiden” power muscle is perfectly plausible. Overall you demonstrate good understanding of the class readings and the peer reviewed article you chose enhanced further analysis of the character. I should also say something negative, but to me there no big shortcomings in this paper. Great Job!
