  1. Assessment four overall was excellently executed. When Sendy presented first, Nikki stood up in the front of the class for support, and Sendy did the same for Nikki. Their voices were not monotonous, and they both projected their voices well enough that everyone in the class (including me who sits in the back of the class) could hear them. Their illustrative examples for both Difference and Queer Theory were strong. For example, after Nikki gave a definition of Queer in Queer theory, she showed a google chrome video based on the widely popular “It Gets Better” campaign. Along with this example being strong, it engaged the students, and I personally thought it was quite moving.
Their powerpoints were also attractive and interesting to view. Furthemore, I thought it was a strong informative strategy to show how both Eastern and Western cultures view issues such as homosexuality, religion and difference. This helped the students from both Eastern and Western cultures understand the issues fully. My only suggestion would be to try not to read from exactly from the powerpoints in future presentations. Overall, informative, engaging and I left the class feeling like I grasped the points they were trying to make.

  2. I thought Nikki and Sendy did a nice job with their presentation. Your speaking was exceptionally clear, and you were calm and collected. And you guys demonstrated a relatively proficient understanding of the concepts from the three readings you discussed. Sendy did a good job contextualizing Queer theory and postcolonial studies, which was really helpful and interesting as well. And Nikki did a great job with getting to the deeper concept that weren’t explained in the class assigned reading. I also like the clip that you guys play Mr. Garrison’s video clip from South Park. It’s a good connection and example for the Queer Theory. And I like the part you guys presenting my Chinese idol Lesile, he is a homosexual indeed, but, if he was in the western society, then he will probably embraced more by the fans and society. I think the introductions all the concepts were quite good but could have gone into just a little bit more detail to strengthen and solidify the class’s understanding. Overall, Nikki and Sendy did a wonderful job by demonstrating those interesting topics.

  3. Nikki and Sendy, you two did a great job. Your presentation was clear and gave us comprehensive explanations of LGBQT. The video clips were used appropriately and related to each topic closely which attracted more attention among us. The PowerPoint slides were displayed well and also helped us in understanding the essences of the difference between male and female and queer theory. The last PPT slide concluded the queer theory clearly and helped us understand more about the concepts.

According to Nikki and Sendy’s presentation, now I have knowledge of difference in feminist theory among China and other countries and also learn more about Mr. Garrism’s sexual identity in South Park. In addition, after watching Leslie Cheung’s performance I could find his lesbian features on the TV show and understand why he is a queer icon.

There was one aspect that I want to remind you. For the interaction part, we only described four features of both male and female within a limited amount of time. However, in fact, we still had more answers about this question .Therefore, if you gave us enough time and concluded broader ideas about this topic that would be great.

Overall, the various and interesting examples you showed to us were helpful and explained well. Well done, girls.

  4. Thank you all for your feedback! Sendy and I were certainly assigned an interesting topic. I am glad that our speaking was clear and loud enough for the class to hear, public speaking is my not my best skill. At first I had a tough time comprehending the concept of Queer Theory, I am glad that after much research I was able to appropriately and successfully represent the idea of Queer Theory on the power point slides. I absolutely agree that you should not read directly from the slides. I think that may be a nervous tendency and is an area where I could use improvement. Perhaps with more practice and with the ability to put particular ideas in your own words, this can be avoided. If more time was permitted, I think we could have benefited from a more involved class exercise. I was also a bit disappointed that the visual from the Mr. Garrison video did not play, it was quite entertaining. Our three readings contained a lot of information and it was vital to only extract the important theories and ideas that we wanted to share with the class. It was difficult to get into a greater amount of detail on each theory without running out of time to discuss all that we wanted to touch upon. Thanks All.

  5. Thank you Amada, Alan, Sabrina and Mingyu~
    Also, thanks Nikki~
It is great that we are in a team which have both western and eastern culture background so we can present from different angles for you. I am always nevous when I present, so I tend to read the words from the PPT more. But acutally, I want to present more than just the words in the ppt. I will try to make it better~
We would definetly want to get into those details in some interesting points and lead some class disscusion, but due to the time limitation and lots of information we had to present to you, we couldn’t.
Thank you all for the opinions!
