End of the Semester-Brittney Keophoxay #5

I’m glad the semester is coming to and end and I learned a lot over the span of the first semester. Not only did I learn the subjects I was taking but I also learned some life lessons.  I learned to manage my time better, to say no to friends, utilize sources around campus and more.  I feel as I am prepared to take on the next semester from what I did and didn’t do this semester.

The break coming up will also give me some time to think of what I want to do in the next couple of months.  Maybe I’d like to apply for an internship over the Summer, or apply for a Summer Institute in Wisconsin, take Summer classes, etc?  Education is great and it opens so many doors to meeting new people and advancing yourself in the world.

College means we have to learn how to prioritize what we want to do in life, how we are going to get there, and what is the first step to do so.

I have to say, I am pretty proud of most of the things I’ve done so far.  I hope to keep learning and pushing myself during my time in college.

SEARCH National Conference-Brittney Keophoxay #4

Today was the first SEARCH (Southeast Asian Restoring Community Hope) National Conference.  It was great meeting all these leaders and professionals.  Each panelist discussed topics about basic needs, health, policy and advocacy, education, and cultural awareness among our community.  I really like national conferences because it’s one of the few times I go up to people and shake their hands to say, “Hi, I’m Brittney, nice to meet you.”  I collected plenty of business cards and I surely will get in touch with them sometime soon.  Many offered me internship opportunities and I think it’s great being just a first year student.  I think I might want to look into the Political Science major at Suffolk University.

Thai Night-Brittney Keophoxay #3

This year I was appointed the new secretary for the Asian American Association at Suffolk.  The first major event was Thai night.  We all got together and took the green line to a Thai restaurant in Brookline called Dok Bua.  I was a little nervous at first because I’m usually really shy around new people.   By the end of the night, we all had a lot of great food, great laughs, and new friendships.  The treasurer and I were the only two with cameras and we went picture crazy.  We took pictures left and right!  By the end of the night, we took different group pictures.  There was a picture of the E-board, the adviser, and then the entire Asian American Association.  I made a lot of great friends.  The next major event is the AAA showcase!  I’m really looking forward to it.  The president and I are performing a choreography to a medley of K-POP songs.

my r.a. Kien

Kien is our R.A. for the 8th floor at 150 Tremont.  I am very happy to have him as our R.A.  He is a hardworking gentleman who finds time to hang with us, and treat us like adults.  Because of him, our floor has meshed together very well, and we are friendly with one another.  Everyone’s always hanging out in the common room, playing games, or just talking.  We all have great chemistry, and are fortunate to have Kien as our R.A.  He is a Bio major, and has a ton of classes, keeping him busy throughout the week.  I respect his work ethic, and he is on his way to having a very successful life.

celtics game 2

On Wednesday, November 28, my girlfriend Morgan and I went to the Celtics game.  They lost 95-83 to the Brooklyn Nets, and were down big the whole game.  But the game wasn’t the best part.  There was a fight between the two teams.  Kris Humprhies, Kim Kardashians famous ex husband, pushed Kevin Garnett as he went to the basket, and Rajon Rondo took exception to that.  He went at Kris Humphries and everyone jumped in.  Rondo got suspended 2 games, but it was worth it in my opinion.  He showed the Celtics that he has their back.  It was Morgan’s first time going to the Celtics game, and she enjoyed it very much.  I was happy that she did, it was a very nice night for the both of us.

patriots game

On Sunday, November 11, my mom and I went to the Patriots game at Gillette Stadium in Patriot Place.  They beat the Buffalo Bills 37-31, in a very exciting and nail biting thriller.  The Bills suck, so the fact that it was that close was pretty ridiculous.  But in the end, Tom Brady and the offense was far too much for the Bills to handle.  The Bills killed themselves with penalties, there were yellow flags flying left and right.  My mom and I were high up in the stadium, in the second row of the upper section.  There were plenty of beer guzzling season ticket holders.  They must have been broke after the game, because the price of a beer there is $10.  All in all, it was a beautiful day, and I had a good time watching the Patriots with my mom.

black ops 2

Eddie bought Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and since his Playstation 3 is in Tokyo, he left it in my room so that I can play whenever I want.  Very awesome situation.  The game is amazing, a very fun experience for anyone who plays.  Eddie and I beat the game the day he got it, but the fun doesn’t stop there.  In my opinion, it is the best Call of Duty yet, and I look forward to playing the new ones that come out in the future.

pumped for next semester

I am excited and happy with my schedule for next semester.  I got all the classes I wanted, and all the times I wanted.  I do not have a class on Fridays, so having 3 day weekends every weekend is very exciting to think about.  More time to sleep in!  The registration process went very well for me, it was easy to pick my schedule once I figured out what classes I wanted to take.  I look forward to next semester, and a fresh start to the new year after a long winter break.

Christmas time

I love Christmas.  I love everything about Christmas, and am so excited that it is now December.  There are so many warm feelings throughout this time, even with the warm weather.  Everyone seems to be much happier during this time of year.  I am a big fan of listening to Christmas music, as I have memorized almost every tune.  I work at Shaw’s supermarket, and they play it starting right after Thanksgiving, so 8 hour shifts give me plenty of time to listen to the large variety of songs there are.  As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned to respect the holiday much more than just getting a lot of presents.  That doesn’t do the holiday justice.  I don’t think about Christmas in a religious sense, because I am not a religious person myself, but I feel as though Christmas is meant to bring families together, and just enjoy the company of being with the ones you love.

Merry Christmas,

Dan

Bento

My friend Eddie turned me on to a Japanese restaurant called Bento Express.  I thoroughly enjoy eating their “Bento Box,” which, for me, consists of teriyaki chicken, rice, fried wontons, sushi, salad, and soup.  I had only had Japanese food once before I tried Bento, and now I go there once a week or so, as I very much enjoy their food.  I am very happy that Eddie took me there, as I may not have known about it otherwise.

Thanks Eddie!
