Charles River Dock

The dock that is right on the Charles River is a great place to just walk to and hang out! It has the prettiest view of Cambridge and of the Charles River itself. If you’re looking for somewhere to have a picnic at, this is the place. There are lounge chairs and always is packed with families or friends and even couples. It’s not a far walk from the dorms at all so if you can definitely make the trip there. There is also a park right before it so if you’re not feeling the dock, there’s always the grass. Bring a blanket, snacks, drinks and friends and have a fun afternoon.

Snow Day

Snowed a lot at night so some of the people on the floor went down to the Commons to have a snowball fight. It was so much fun chucking snowballs at each other. Even though it only lasted about thirty minutes it was a blast. Running around in the snow it was so much fun. I recommend everyone to have a snowball fight every time it snows. It will be very fun, I promise.

Veterans Weekend

November 16th was my sisters birthday and we celebrated at a restaurant called Red Lantern. It was very good Asian food. There was friend rice, teriyaki chicken, yakitori, and other Asian cuisines. I meet couple of her friends and it was tons of fun. The restaurant is close by only a 10-15min walk; not to far.

Its at:
39 StanHope St.

Boston, MA 02116

Phone Number: 617-262-3900

It was very good I definitely recommend it for parties.

Diversity in The City

I know we were asked to write something in regards to the class on diversity.  I have to say that Craig’s visit to class was very eye opening and really made me think about a lot of things. It was a really great way to get to know everyone better.  Going to school in the city has been such an amazing experience, mainly because all the different kinds of people.  I grew up in small town that did a poor job of representing diversity, so being surrounded by people who come from different environments and who have experienced different things has been a great experience.

Maine Trip

Columbus weekend, which I know was a while ago, was amazing. I went to Maine for my Bio 114 class which was not required but I wanted to go because it looked interesting and it was an amazing trip. Spending 3 days out in Main in the wilderness; the dark nights; seeing the clear night sky with all the stars shinning; it was incredible. I wish I was able to stay up there longer but it was only for that weekend. It is an amazing opportunity to go up to Maine and have that kind of experience. There is also classes that teach up there; however, I could not get into the class for this summer. Hopefully, if I still am a Bio major, I will have the opportunity again to go visit Main and the field station.

SU Event – Student Debate

On October 23rd I attended a student political debate in the C. Walsh Theater. The debate was created by the Suffolk Libertarians and the moderator was a Suffolk University Professor. The panel consisted of two members from the Suffolk Democrats, Suffolk Republicans, and Suffolk Libertarians. The moderator would ask question regarding any policy or issue for this coming election and the party’s stance. Each party had a two minute chance to respond and a 90 second rebuttal. I’ll keep who I thought the winner of the debate was to myself because I have a bias. Overall it was a great time and an excellent way to hear different stances and opinions on certain issues from fellow classmates. It was informative and I hope student debates like this one will continue here at Suffolk. – Kalene

Cupcakes!

Just the other day I was walking down Newbury Street and stumbled across “Sweet” a cupcake bakery.  The inside was very cute and the staff was friendly and helpful.  I ordered a carrot cake cupcake and a double chocolate.  I was super upset to find that they looked much better than they tasted.  There is one food truck that often appears on Boylston Street in front of the Boston public library, it’s called “kick ass cupcakes.” So far I have only tried their maple bacon cupcake.  Surprisingly it was delicious!!! The original bakery is in Davis Square.

Boston’s 71st Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony-Sofia

A great event to kick off the festivities this year is Boston’s 71st annual tree lighting ceremony.  It will be taking place this friday November 29th from 6pm to 8pm at the Boston common.  Every year a 45 foot white spruce is donated by Nova Scotia to the city of Boston.  The history of Nova Scotia’s annual gift dates back to 1917 when a french cargo ship loaded with explosives collided with a Norwegian ship in Halifax harbor.  Many people were injured and nearly 1,000 lives were lost in this tragic event.  Boston was one of the first cities to offer aid.  This tradition is marked as a mere “thank you” from Nova Scotia to Boston.

Graffiti

Walking around Boston just having some fun.  Me and a couple of friends leaving a mark around town!

We had a bunch of colors and ended up having a great time!

Boston is nice and open so if anyone is interested in just walking around and tagging stuff just do it at night and be chill about it.  Its all about the art and not about defacing material

Last Class!-Nas

Today was the last official class and I am excited the semester is coming to an end! Feels good knowing my first year as a college student is going well and looking forward to many more years of success and opportunities. This class definitely helped keep me focused and it some what reminded me of the “bigger picture.” SU 101 was great but I wish we could have had more field trips.
