South Asian Student Association (SASA) is back and better than ever thanks to Usman Chaudhary as President. Usman was a part of SASA before the club was discontinued last year and took it upon himself to revive the club this year with an entirely new e-board. Among the e-board this year are Jay Patel (vice president), Aidan Puthussery (treasurer), Damien Sapra (secretary), and Iman Haidri (social media coordinator).

“I was a part of it last year before it died and I had a good time […] it was good to be with people who share the same culture as you, which can be hard to find […] I wanted to bring it back because I knew there was a lot of interest in it before,” Usman said during our interview.

SASA is putting a large emphasis this year on creating a close-knit community of students who identify as South Asian at Suffolk. However, anyone interested is welcome to join the club and learn more. SASA has exciting plans that include possible collaborations with the members of SASA at neighboring colleges.

“Long term, we’re planning on teaming up with neighboring schools with a lot of South Asian kids like Northeastern or BU […] we have a lot of long-term goals we need to work on […]” said Usman.

This semester SASA members can expect consistently fun events including a Bollywood movie night, game night, and karaoke night. Of course, delicious South Asian food and snacks will also be served at the meetings too. All SASA meetings will take place every other Tuesday in Sawyer room 429 starting February 14th.

Join SASA for their first general meeting on February 14th from 5:30-7:30 pm for their henna night with complimentary snacks and chai (Sawyer Room 429). This first meeting will be a great opportunity to meet the e-board, along with other South Asian students in the school.
