Over the long weekend, I had the opportunity to visit Salem, MA for the first time. This town comes alive during October to not only celebrate Halloween, but also to inform tourists about the history of Salem. According to my walking tour guide, Salem only recently (approximately 60 years ago) started capitalizing on being the “Halloween Town” that it is famously known for today. Since then, it has become a tourist destination that attracts upwards of 500,000 people during the season despite a residential population of only 40,000. These are pictures taken during my day-trip to Salem that encapsulate my experience in this infamous witch-trial town.
