Lab Exercise 2: Measuring Distance and Velocity

Fortunately, for this lab exercise, my classmate and I were provided a complete lego car already built with all of its pieces in order. At the beginning we did not expect we would accomplish the entire work but thanks to my classmate we concluded the exercise with great results.

The first step was to plug the cables from the engines to the lego car then to the CPU so that the car would run based on the units indicated on the program. On a first attempt, we gave more power to one of the engines resulting into a rotating car. Later, we measured the diameter of the wheel and computed the circumference in meters in order to be abbe to record the distance and turns of the wheel.

Secondly, we manually measure (with a ruler) the distance that the car would tour. This was compared to the actual distance recorded by the computer (which is the actual precise distance) in order to find the percent of error. Our professor was surprised to find that our intervals were not that far apart and we were actually doing a very precise job measuring the distance with a ruler.

After concluding our exercise, we began to experiment with the lego car. First we gave it the maximum power which it was 127, the car just busted almost off the table. We also made it turn three times by giving it power only in one of the engines that moves the wheels. I learned how to calculated the percentage of error and how to use it in further experiments, I found the exercise with the lego fun and interesting and I am looking forward for more exercises like this one.
