The Impact on Families Regarding COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting everyone, some more drastically than others, and for a number of families, it could mean making big changes in everyday living. After some extensive research on coping methods for families who have been affected by COVID-19 within the CDC database specifically in the United States, families and overall citizens have experienced shelter-in-place orders, school closures, shopping center restrictions and overall six feet apart mandates. Added stressors originate from job loss, lack of unemployment benefits assistance, job replacement options, isolation, excessive confinement, and anxieties over future and current health and finances status.
The CDC website advocates for people to practice healthy coping mechanisms in the presences of loved ones. This helps reduce anxiety and the internalization of over analyzing negative hypothetical scenarios from the uncertain future. Further researching the economic disparities linked to COVID-19 on the CDC website, one of the major topics over analyzed by families, it has shown how families have strengthened their overall economic social rights/protection methods knowledge, involvement and awareness. This is especially true for low-income communities, who are more vulnerable to economic shifts. Katie Kurutz, writer of the article “Making the News: New Normal: How COVID-19 has Impacted Children, Families, and Communities”, included interesting details regarding the way families are left feeling due to the pandemic. For example, Kurutz touches upon schools shutting down, jobs having to be done at home, relocation of jobs due to certain sites not opening, and small local businesses have to shut their doors to the public.
In addition Discoversociety’s , “Researching COVID-19 and It’s Impact on Families: Some Ethical Challenges”, discussed how families nationwide have adapted to the COVID-19 through either emotional or physical implications. It’s very important for families to follow important guidelines in finding ways to accept our current situation whether it be visiting a state park, meditating, helping out small businesses by ordering items,reading a book or overall bonding. Families have to be cautious and follow the advice we are given, to stay home, follow social distancing, and wear masks in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

I want to start by saying that the language used in your blog post is very clear and concise. I think one thing that could strengthen your claims would be adding statistics. For example, you brought up economic disparities linked to COVID-19, it would have been informative to see what exactly these income disparities are. How are families of color, or perhaps families just above the poverty line, effected compared to while middle-class families? Are single mothers impacted more than the “typical” nuclear family? I think adding statistics could help to give more context to your topic. I also think that maybe adding a quote from Katie Kurutz article that you referenced would be a good way to grab the reader and inform them on what you feel are important points pertaining to your subject.
