Suffolk University Law Review
The Suffolk University Law Review is a student-edited legal periodical published four times each year. The Law Review’s objective is to advance legal education and the legal profession through quality legal commentary and high publication standards. With this goal in mind, the Law Review strives to advance the growing reputation of Suffolk University Law School.
About the Law Review
Law reviews are the principal medium through which new legal thought and authoritative opinion are presented to the profession. Among all the fields of graduate studies, law reviews are unique because they are edited and produced by students, with minimal faculty oversight.
Each issue of the Suffolk University Law Review is divided between works written by professionals and students. Professional contributions are in the form of Lead Articles.
History
It was the fall of 1966. Suffolk University Law School had just moved into its new quarters, the Donahue Building. One of the rooms in that building was to house the Suffolk University Law Review.
Subscriptions
Thank you for your interest in the Suffolk University Law Review. The Law Review publishes four issues per year. The Law Review sells single issues as well as annual subscriptions. A single issue costs $9 and an annual subscription costs $27.
Membership
The Editors and Staff of the Suffolk University Law Review are chosen from the second- and third-year Day Division classes and the third- and fourth-year Evening Division classes.
The Suffolk University Law Review sponsors the Donahue Lecture Series, which annually attracts lecturers from among the nation’s top legal scholars and jurists. Each Donahue Lecturer is an exceptionally prominent legal scholar who delivers a lecture at Suffolk University Law School that forms the basis for a Lead Article to be published in the Law Review shortly thereafter.
The Law Review instituted this lecture series in 1980 to commemorate the Honorable Frank J. Donahue, former faculty member, trustee, and treasurer of Suffolk University. Judge Donahue graduated from Suffolk University Law School in 1921, and served as an Associate Justice of the Superior Court of Massachusetts for forty-two years — the longest term in that court’s history. As Chairman of the Law School Committee of the Board of Trustees, Judge Donahue played an active role in the expansion of the faculty, library, and other facilities at the law school. For many years, he served as president of the Law School Alumni Association and, in that capacity, personally raised thousands of dollars of scholarship funds to promote, encourage, and reward the pursuit of scholastic excellence.
