How Difficult Is It to Find a Roommate?:

Looking for a place in Boston itself is already hard, but looking for a perfect roommate? This is way harder than you think, but don’t worry I have some tips for you to find your “suitable” roommate!
First, there’s no such thing as the perfect roommate. You just need to find someone that could understand your privacy and set up some ground rules, and of course could communicate well.

Make sure before you live with someone–try to communicate about everything and set up some ground rules.

Second, if you are new to Boston and don’t have many friends, Suffolk has an Off-Campus Housing website that provides you with a profile of other students that are also looking for a place and roommate, who knows you could find your potential roommate from there!

Third, you could be friends with someone for a long time and think you could get along with them as a roommate, but unfortunately it isn’t always the case. Remember, being roommates means you’re living under the same roof and most likely will see each other more often. Sometimes there are certain things that you don’t know about them, and once you both live together maybe those things that you don’t know aren’t something that you’re comfortable with. So, make sure before you live with someone–try to communicate about everything and set up some ground rules.

Happy roommate hunting!!

How hard is it to find apartments as an international student?

As we know, it is already hard enough to find an apartment to live in Boston. We know from the high rent prices and high demands for it especially in September when everyone is trying to move to a new place and find a new decent place to live.

But as an international student, it gets even harder since from all we know, when you are trying to find an apartment to live several requirements are needed to apply for and get the apartment.

Some additional steps are needed for international students like having a US guarantor, high proof of income, and some other requirements to prove that we are a student here, such as visas, class schedules, and even an acceptance letter to the school that we are attending. If we don’t have a US guarantor, sometimes we have to pay a higher deposit. There is one way to make it easier, which is by hiring an agent, but of course, it will come with an additional cost.
