Support for Scholarly Activities

At the CTSE, we recognize that teaching excellence and scholarly work are deeply interconnected. Through our growing scholarly support initiatives, we foster spaces and opportunities for faculty to advance their research agendas, strengthen their writing practice, and explore the scholarship of teaching and learning. From dedicated writing retreats to methodological consultations, we're expanding our programs to nurture Suffolk's vibrant community of scholar-educators.

WRITING GROUPS

One of the most powerful ways to stay connected to your writing is by joining a writing group. Writing groups provide community, accountability, structure, focus, and feedback. The CTSE coordinates new writing groups to begin two times a year – prior to the summer and prior to winter break. The aim is that the groups will consist of four people (made up of faculty, lecturers, adjunct instructors, or staff) who meet weekly for two hours to read two pages of each member’s work and provide feedback.

We recommend the groups use the format described in a book that has successfully guided past CTSE writing groups: Tara Gray’s Publish and Flourish. The CTSE will provide each writing group member with a copy of Publish and Flourish and brief training on how to use Gray’s approach. Cross-disciplinarity is encouraged in these groups as the focus of the feedback is on clarity, engagement, flow, and coherence, rather than on disciplinary content.

If you are interested in joining a writing group at a time other than the bi-annual group formation periods, please email us at ctse@suffolk.edu.

WRITING RETREATS

CTSE writing retreats provide dedicated time and space for faculty to make progress on their scholarly writing projects. Our Writers' Den series offers a welcoming environment with refreshments, lunch, and a community of fellow writers, allowing you to step away from daily responsibilities and focus deeply on your writing goals. Whether you're working on an article, book chapter, grant proposal, or other scholarly project, these structured sessions help you maintain writing momentum throughout the semester.

RESEARCH CONSULTATIONS

Our research consultations support faculty at every stage of their educational research journey. We offer guidance on literature reviews, research design, and qualitative methodologies, with particular expertise in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). Whether you're exploring student learning in your classroom or investigating broader pedagogical questions, we can help refine your research approach and navigate the path to publication.
