Master Class: Suffolk Edition

A University-wide Faculty Peer Learning Initiative

Associate Dean Tracey Riley (SBS), Associate Dean Micky Lee (CAS), Vice Dean Patrick Shin (Law), and the Center for Teaching and Scholarly Excellence are delighted to present The Master Class: Suffolk Edition. This program is designed to open classroom doors (or Zoom rooms) across Suffolk University, creating opportunities for faculty to learn from and be inspired by their colleagues' teaching practices. The aim is two-fold: to celebrate teaching excellence and to foster a collaborative learning community among faculty members across disciplines.

Through this program, Suffolk faculty members volunteer to welcome colleagues into their classrooms, sharing their expertise and experience with teaching approaches that might include the following:

  • Active learning techniques
  • Discussion facilitation
  • Student engagement strategies
  • Experiential learning activities
  • Technology integration
  • Innovative assessment methods

The CTSE supports the coordination of class visits and maintains a current roster of participating faculty.

How does the program work?

For Host Faculty:

  • Volunteer to open your classroom by registering with the Center for Teaching and Scholarly Excellence.
  • Specify which class sessions are available for visits. Note: We suggest weeks three to eleven during a typical semester.
  • Share brief information about your teaching approaches and areas of expertise.

Host faculty will be recognized for their time and commitment at the CTSE’s Annual Symposium on Innovation in Teaching and Learning

For Visiting Faculty:

  • Contact the Center for Teaching and Scholarly Excellence to express interest and indicate the type of teaching you are hoping to observe.
  • Get matched with colleagues whose teaching approaches align with your interests.
  • The CTSE will send an introductory email to the host and the visiting faculty member to coordinate the visit.

How do I sign up, either as a faculty host or an observer?

Complete the interest form indicating whether you'd like to be a host and open your classroom or if you're interested in visiting a class. A member of the CTSE team will contact you after the form is submitted. If you have questions prior to completing the form, please email us at ctse@suffolk.edu
