Exodus 33. 7-10

Who: Moses, God and Followers

Where: A little outside of Horeb

When: After God had scolded the people about worshiping the calf

What: People watch Moses go to tent and bow to him. They do not follow him to the tent.

Quote: Verse 10 “When all people saw pillar…”

  • Author’s Intentions: Show how all the people who once idolized a golden calf now are respectful and can worship something abstract.
  • Ideas: The people have the ability to evolve from listening to God and his lessons.
  • Word Choice: There is repetition among this quote when god says, “all the people…all of them,” he is reiterating that every single person is included in the description.
  • Images and Symbols present/ideas: The tent is a place for Moses and God to communicate. The cloud is an abstract representation of God and allows the people to worship something abstract,

Do you think that being able to evolve from listening to God and his lessons means that the Israelites may turn away from God again?
