Suffolk University Presents:

A Podcast Committed to Elevating Public Voices

Voices of Public Leaders is a new podcast intended to capture the perspectives of those working in the public sector- at local, state and federal levels as well as those in nonprofit organizations- particularly during these unprecedented times. If you are a public leader, we want to hear from you! Your title does not need to represent a managerial role for you to be considered a leader.  We want to hear it all- the challenges, the opportunities for change and everything in the middle.

Episode 1: Dr. Kassy Alia Ray on Police-Community Relationships and Racism in the U.S.

During this two-part episode, Dr. Kassy Alia Ray shares her story of how she started a nonprofit organization, Serve & Connect, in the aftermath of losing her husband, a former police officer, who was killed in the line of duty in 2015.  During part 1, she talks about the mission of the nonprofit and some specific strategies they are implementing in response to COVID-19.  In part 2 of the interview, Kassy gets real about racism in the U.S., what her organization is doing in response and offers some insights into the future of public safety.

Message from your Host, Dr. Lauren Hajjar

Hello! I’m Dr. Lauren Hajjar, a public administration educator and researcher of organizational change and culture. I believe public sector work is critical to the basic functioning of our communities across the globe. The work of our public leaders is changing quickly right now and will impact the way work gets done and how services are provided to the public for years to come. The purpose of the VPL podcast is to elevate the voices of those on the frontlines to advance our knowledge of what works and what doesn’t within government and nonprofit organizations. I invite you to join me and let your story be heard.
