About Us
The Suffolk University Law School’s Transnational Law Review (TLR) is the second oldest international law journal in the country and serves as a forum to discuss and examine contemporary international legal issues. Since its inception in 1976, TLR has emerged as a nationally and internationally recognized publication, subscribed to by practicing attorneys, universities, law schools and libraries around the world. TLR serves as a forum to discuss contemporary international legal issues. The leading authorities on international law, authors of law school textbooks and authors of treatises on international law, have cited TLR articles.
As an entirely student organized and operated law review, TLR thrives in its unique role as both a prestigious Honor Board and a complement to Suffolk University Law School’s distinguished international law faculty and international law organizations. Each academic year, TLR publishes one volume, which consists of two books: one book in the fall and one in the spring. Each book consists of lead articles authored by noted legal scholars and staff members’ work.
Law Review membership is considered a prestigious accomplishment, and many employers seek law review students because of the skills gained by participating on a journal. Membership on TLR improves legal writing, editing and researching skills, while also instilling self-discipline, self-motivation, and professionalism. TLR affords its members the opportunity to distinguish their legal academic careers from their colleagues. Additionally, the collegial environment and the strong network of TLR members in practice fosters numerous employment opportunities. Students on TLR may receive one to two credits per semester and satisfy Suffolk Law School’s legal writing requirement.
As our world continues to globalize, the importance of understanding international legal issues increases. TLR provides its members with the opportunity to develop an understanding of both public and private international legal issues. Current pieces written by TLR staff members include such topics as: human trafficking of athletes from Africa; Formula One Racing’s commitments to human rights in the Gulf States; supply chains in a post-Covid economy; climate change refugees; the Italian Mafia’s relationship with ISIS; and the legal issues surrounding the exportation of liquid natural gas to Europe.
