The Suffolk Scoop is a publication produced by students in the Journalism I Newswriting class at Suffolk University in Boston, Mass., taught by instructor Sherri Miles.

The course teaches the basics of newswriting for both print and online publications. Students cover news and events and write profiles and feature stories that impact Suffolk University and the greater Boston community.

Historically a commuter school, Suffolk University has drawn students from Boston and its surrounding communities for the past 100 years. Now offering three residential halls situated on Beacon Hill and around the Boston Common, the school offers a limited amount of on-campus housing with the goal of providing students more residential options in the future.Consequently, many Suffolk students choose to live at home or in apartments off campus, commuting to school by T, bus, car or on foot from Boston’s nearby neighborhoods and towns.

With so many students having a home and school community that aren’t necessarily the same, news that impacts their lives isn’t confined to the physical Suffolk campus.

The Suffolk Scoop extends its news coverage to include the local communities of the student reporters, the campus itself, and everything in between.
