Welcome to our study abroad blog series where students will be talking about their experiences studying abroad in South Korea!
Hi, my name is Lena Le. I am currently a senior studying Global Business and Marketing. Last semester Spring of 2022, I got the opportunity to study abroad in South Korea at Yonsei University. Studying abroad has been a dream of mine ever since I was a freshman. This was an amazing experience that I would recommend everyone to do during their time in college. I will be writing a series of blogs solely on my study abroad experience in South Korea.
Suffolk University has a long list of countries and colleges where you could study abroad in. When deciding on where to study abroad I was stuck between France and South Korea. They both are great places but it came down to cute cafes and their food.
Through Suffolk, you can study at Yonsei University which is an Ivy League in South Korea. South Korea has three Ivy League; Seoul National University, Korea University, and Yonsei University which is also known as SKU university. Yonsei University is the oldest private university in Korea and is located in central Seoul so there are many things to do nearby.
One thing different about colleges in South Korea is they start school in March which is the spring semester and in the United States, we start school in September which is the fall semester. I had to explain this to my friends which were difficult for them to understand so I want to tell y’all this. Also, Yonsei holds two festivals every school year Muak Festival and AKARAKA, both of which celebrate the student body’s creativity and culture. Unfortunately, I did not attend because they postponed it to September so hopefully y’all can attend one when you study abroad in South Korea.
