Contemporary Illustration: At Your Service: The work of top illustrators from the United States, Canada and Italy is at Suffolk University’s Adams Gallery in an exhibition organized by the Illustration Program at the New England School of Art & Design at Suffolk University. The exhibition shows original illustrations alongside their final applications, and each artist’s work represents a different use of illustration.

Monday 18th: 

Wreck-It-Ralph: Program Council and the Video Gamers Army will be showing Wreck-it Ralph. There will be a good movie, pizza and a free raffle! You can win either a $50 GameStop gift card, or a movie pack – complete with two movie passes, popcorn, and candy.

Suffolk Cinema Series: CJN Department’s Suffolk Cinema Serices presents Conversation with…Mary Badham. Badham played Scout in the film “To Kill a Mocking Bird.” Admission is free for the Suffolk University Community. There will be a screening of the film at 6pm in the Modern Theatre.

Our Mockingbird: Enjoy a sneak preview of Watertown filmmaker Sandy Jaffe’s new documentary, Our Mockingbird. The film follows two Birmingham, AL high schools – one white, one black – as they join forces to stage Harper Lee’s classic novel. Ms. Jaffe will speak afterwards with Mary Badham and Communication & Journalism professor Gerald Peary. All are welcome. Tickets free to the Suffolk community. Wednesday 20th:

Rachel’s Challenge: The programs are based on the writings and life of 17 year-old Rachel Scott who was the first student killed at Columbine High School in 1999. Rachel left a legacy of reaching out to those who were different, who were picked on by others, or who were new at her school.

“I have this theory that if one person can go out of their way to show compassion, then it will start a chain reaction of the same. People will never know how far a little kindness can go.”

Thursday 21st:

Guns Don’t Kill People, The Media Kills People: The media shapes how we see things, even when we know the truth is otherwise. After all, why is the national conversation on guns framed as “pro-gun vs. anti-gun” despite most of our perspectives being much more nuanced? Moderator Edward Powell (Executive Director, The Boston Foundation’s StreetSafe Boston) shines a spotlight on how the media’s distortion of reality exacerbates gun violence. He speaks with John Rosenthal (gun owner and founder/Chairman of Stop Handgun Violence) andCharlton McIlwain (Associate Professor of Media, Culture, and Communication, NYU Steinhardt) to identify how TV, internet, and newspaper reporting paints an inaccurate picture of guns’ effects on communities of color and engages in fear-mongering that fails to prevent further tragedies.

Caribbean Student Network Presents: Falsetto Fashion Show: CSN presents its 24th annual Fashion show from 6:30-9:30 PM in the C. Walsh Theatre. There will be a variety of designers and performers.
