INSTARAM: What is your major/year?
MARISSA KENNEDY: Advertising and Graphic Design, Senior
What activities are you involved in on and off campus?
KENNEDY: On campus I’m the group manager and vocalist for Rhythm, Suffolk’s Contemporary Music Ensamble; and member/in charge of PR/Advertising for Sketchual Misconduct. Off campus I work as a graphic designer for Channel 7 News; and always love using my free time to practice music and design things for groups on campus.
How did you find your way around campus? What advice do you have for the incoming freshmen?
KENNEDY: I learned how to get around campus by walking around. A lot. I’ve never lived in the dorms, so I had to learn to navigate the streets and subway pretty quickly. People are also pretty helpful and nice about asking for directions (and if you’re already in the Suffolk area, there’s a good chance who you ask is a college student themselves). I would advise incoming freshmen to get out of their comfort zones. Meet new people, join groups, do things that are totally different from what you’ve done before. You may not have another chance like this to do so. Getting involved on campus has been a great way for me to feel like a part of this university, and has resulted in meeting some of the best friends I could’ve asked for!
What has been your greatest accomplishment at Suffolk?
KENNEDY: My greatest accomplishment is a tie between getting to perform in the comedy troupe (Sketchual Misconduct) on stage at a REAL comedy club – which is SO unlike anything I EVER thought I would do. Also, being nominated for Junior of the Year by my peers for the SGA awards. Being a risk taker has resulted in me getting some pretty great experiences, these being my two favorite so far at Suffolk. The SGA awards were especially cool because I put so much energy and time into the groups I am a part of. I also always make it a point to be friendly, nice, social, and try to be the person to make you feel better when you’re stressed or down…and this goes not only for my friends but all my peers at Suffolk. It was great to know that all these don’t go unnoticed!
What are you ashamed to admit you enjoy?
KENNEDY: I’m not going to say exactly how many, but I’ve willingly watched Justin Bieber’s documentary that’s on Netflix more than once…
