As graduate students, we’re all familiar with the stress that finals week brings. They never get easier. If anything, classes get more difficult as we advance in our programs. There are ways to manage this stress and make finals week more bearable and to be more successful. See our tips on how to survive finals week:
- Set Study Hours: Keep yourself on track by setting study hours for yourself. Book a study room at the library or in Sargent Hall to help keep track of these hours and make sure you are keeping up to date with studying. Book rooms here: http://suffolk.libcal.com/booking/GroupStudyRooms
- Form Study Groups with Classmates: The study rooms are reserved for groups, so form study groups with people in your classes. This will help you be able to use the rooms, hold each other accountable for actually putting in study time, and be able to help each other learn.
- Sacrifice a weekend to study: Grad school is a lot of work– especially around finals time. Our social lives are important, but sometimes it’s necessary to give up a weekend out with friends to study. If you have a group of classmates to study with, a Friday night in the library won’t seem so bad because you will still be surrounded by people!
- Give yourself a break: Yes, study hard and sacrifice a night of fun if you have to, but make sure to relax so you don’t go crazy. Keep an eye out for events on/near campus like GSA “End of the Semester Snack” on December 12th at 12-2 time on the 5th floor of Sargent Hall and GSA’s “End of the Year Social” on December 7th at The Black Rose in Faneuil Hall.
- After the exam.. let it go: Once the exam is over, don’t keep stressing about it. This is the time to go out for a celebratory meal or drink with your classmates because you survived the semester!
