PERSONAL WORK
I create urban-based work with tones of post-industrial society and decay. My thought process is born out of the psychogeographic and situationist traditions. I work in mixed media with construction grade latex house paints, aerosol, and acrylics, and focus a lot on layering. Much the way street artists create collage-like pastiches as they paint over each other, I try to work this way against myself on canvas and paper.
I like to take the precision and methodical actions of my design training, working with xacto to make a stencil or cut for collage, and push that into my mark making practice in mixed media. It is in this way, on the wall or the canvas that I take my spatial experiences walking through the world and process them.
PROFESSIONAL WORK
mit
I am Senior Web and Media Designer in the Research Laboratory of Electronics at MIT. As the single in-house designer for a community of about 800 members and affiliates within the institute my practice touches a broad range of design disciplines, including photography, illustration, web, environmental, print, and interior design. Working with scientists and engineers as my clients, many of the
design problems I face involve communicating complex research issues in clear terms for other viewers to process. Though much of what I do lives in a digital realm, some of the most powerful work I have done has ended up in print form as poster series and publication cover designs.
