Differences Between Russian and American Governments

By Alexandra Kogan

As the coronavirus is slowing its own pace all over the world, some of the countries are still not over the consequences of one of the deadliest viruses in the history. Each country had survived the pandemic at its own terms. Moreover, not all of the countries have published the truth of their experience during the pandemic. The greatest example that can show the different approach to the COVID-19 are two countries —Russia and the United States of America. The way how the information is presented, how the financial situation is being handled, and many other criteria are showing how these two opposite governments are working and leading their people.

Russia is not the country of the people; it is the country of the government. For example, American government cares about people and their health, so they let American people know what the situation in their country is. There for Russia is the exact opposite; they hide the information about the virus and unaware people don’t use any protection, so they get sick and a huge population of elderly people die. Russia inherited the Soviet secrecy; Russian government is afraid that they will look weak to other superpowers if they see the real effect of the pandemic in Russia. America on the other hand is made out of trust between the government and the people. As the United States COVID-19 Cases and Deaths by State article says, in the United States for to about 5 million sick people and out of them 161,284 severely sick people can’t get on a ventilator. In Russia the situation is about the same, but what is different is that a lot of the information is false or not close enough to the truth. There are no correct numbers, but there are Russian hospital workers that post videos and photos of what is going on there. Moscow being the capitol city has the best health care in Russia, they have basic stuff that all the regions except Moscow don’t even have. As the article Cases in U.S. says, the statistics say that there are around 888,000 of confirmed cases and 14,931 deaths, but social media rejects this statement with what they see every day. First, they don’t have enough tests to test everyone and quarantine them; second is that even United states can’t support all the hospitals, then imagine what happens in Russian Federation with. Now Russia has some ventilators, but they are ancient and most of them are broken and cannot support people.

How they support the other countries is also very important to countries with poor health care and it is also very important to the country’s economy. As the article “ Russian COVID-19 aid plane to US: Putting asked Trump if he needed help and he accepted”, for example, on May 21 2020, Russia sent a $5.6 million dollar COVID-19 aid package to the United States of America. As Russia has a picture of an aggressor to other countries, this helped to improve the relations between the world politics and Russia. Although this was a great thing to do seeing what was happening in New York at the time, but Russians felt left out by their government, because the situation in Russia wasn’t great either and they really needed any help they could get from the government. United States also spent millions of dollars in supporting other countries, but they don’t get much credit for that because it is a typical thing for them to do, to help other countries in difficult situations. The United States of America became a superpower and a leading economy because of their support to other small and big economies or countries.

It is an obvious conclusion that the United States thinks of people and cares about them. Russia is at the opposite, is the country that puts its own status in from of the health and safety of the population, even if it means that the dictator government will lose the trust of its citizens. In the Russian Federation, citizens are supposed to take care of themselves without any help or regulations from the government. This is the main difference between the Unites States of America and Russia. Especially during the pandemic, there were no direct rules that were given to the people in Russia; therefore, leading to the disobedience and the huge amount of COVID-19 cases. At the first moments of the occurrence of the coronavirus in Russia, the president Putin did not make any official claims of the quarantine. In the United States, everyone got straight rules and directions of how to stay healthy and safe at this hard time.

  9. The differences between the Russian and American governments, especially highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, are vast. These differences are mirrored in how American and Russian companies, including game companies, operate and engage with the public.

American game companies, like many other sectors, often emphasize transparency and community engagement. This approach contrasts with the secrecy that has been a part of the Russian government’s response to the pandemic. For instance, American game companies frequently share detailed updates and involve their player base in decision-making processes through forums and social media. This openness fosters trust and loyalty among their users.

In Russia, the approach is more controlled and less interactive. Game companies might not have the same level of open communication with their audiences, potentially due to cultural or regulatory differences. This can lead to a gap in user satisfaction and a slower response to community feedback.

How do you think these differences in government transparency and public engagement affect the gaming communities in each country?
