As we now may know, countries are judged and/or ranked according to the comfort and safety awarded to its citizens, a term for this statement can be referred to as the human development index. Unfortunately there are many people who grow up in harsh economic conditions and their

countries aren’t able to act as a support system. With this current pandemic we have seen how the corona virus has exposed the inequities throughout this world.

The response to the corona virus has been
seemingly the same throughout all countries,
various stages of social distancing have been implemented in countries such as China, Europe, and the US. In countries like Nigeria and India this hasn’t been the case due to different factors “including demographic composition, the source of people’s livelihoods, and institutional capacity—that suggest that the answer may be different than in the United States or Europe”(FP).

According to various sources, Imposing strict lockdowns in faulty countries would do more harm than good. In Nigeria for example, people rely on hands on labor in order to provide their families with the basic necessities needed for survival. Without the ability to work in their present conditions many would suffer harsh consequences which include famine would occur. As reported by CNN, Social distancing in Indias slums is impossible, People live in tiny packed huts which even lack running water. I find it to be a joke that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s has even implemented a 21 day nationwide lockdown knowing the economic impact that it would have on its citizens.

Without the help of other countries, those suffering from the lack of proper sanitation and access to clean water will only continue to suffer. It’s important that government officials ensure the economic stability of their citizens before implementing any new safety standards.
