With the projection of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s predictably arguable to discuss the enactment of redundant immigration restrictions and policies that have been placed. As of July 06, 2020, an unethical regulation was published by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The unjustified decision has initiated the rage of several international students who now are forced to leave the country if their college or university plans to deliver their coursework remotely.

So what does this suggest in the rising concern of international students, what complications can arise? How will they be able to return to their native countries, if travel restrictions remain in certain countries in order to eliminate the spread of COVID-19?

With the continuation of ongoing criticism and proclamations, many universities have advocated protecting international students who study in their institutions by providing new enforcement in their curriculum. Studies suggest there is an estimate of 1.2 million international students confirmed to be affected in the restrictions of visas nationwide.

The I.C.E. administration strictly enforced the statement that follows, “The U.S. Department of State will not issue visas to students enrolled in schools and/or programs that are fully online for the fall semester nor will U.S. Customs and Border Protection permit these students to enter the United States.”

These concerns have been reached to a certain extent in the U.S. District Court that as of July 12, 2020, the Trump administration has pursued a legal precedent announcing a resin against I.C.E. to continue the invalidation of this reform, new statements suggest it is considered unlawful and would adversely affect various academic institutions. These new proclamations have validated the right for international students to remain in the United States while they are enrolled and registered in their given institutions nationwide.

It is important to recognize the importance of this issue against students who are qualified and merited scholar immigrants who go as far as to travel to a different country to receive an education. Demonstrating to be very hardworking and passionate individuals within American society.

While these new regulations still remain a sensitive topic to many, it’s now more than ever that we must acknowledge the value of education no matter your origin. Without a doubt, the loss of international students would indefinitely cause a major deprivation to our educational system nationwide.

  1. For America, how would you describe the role they play for American culture. The image of immigrants of America has been changing, but where do you think it’s heading?

    • Thank you for comment! Forwarding to your question, I believe that international students make a major contribution to the American economy as to American culture as they provide a more enriched and diverse educational system to universities across the nation. Immigrants have such a fundamental role in society that it’s important to recognize the hardships and value they provide. In the future of immigration in America, I hope we’re able to surpass the obstacles that have continuously been challenged. In my opinion were heading in a direction where now we must continue to fight for change in our Democratic system to consistently keep pushing reforms to protect Immigrants in our country.

    • I agree immigrants are the backbone of American culture. In the past we have been considered the ideal country for taking everyone no matter what their situation. A symbol of that would be the Statue of Library. The image of immigrants has been drastically shifted with ICE, remarks by President Trump, and their situation in school and work. As the image of immigrants becomes more negative what does this mean for the future of American democracy and ideals especially with our upcoming election in your experience.

  2. This is such a great topic to be discussing because as you said, although it may be uncomfortable for some, its important to bring to the forefront. I think its really disheartening to have such an unethical regulation put against our students when we are living in enough of a hard time with this pandemic as it is. These international students offer so much to these universities and I feel as if this regulation completely dismisses that. It seems as if we are only moving backwards.

    • Thank you for your commentary! And yes I totally agree, instead of continuing to progress with Immigration in America we’re only moving backwards. In this instance I believe that bringing awareness to these kind of unethical decisions affecting international students nationwide should be taken with much importance.

  3. This becomes such a great contreversal topic because the United States sees a lot of students coming in internationally. The 1.2 million international students who are being affect by this so called unethical regulation that was recently put into play by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement are essentially being ripped off because they pay a lot of money to come to this country and receive a good education. If international students are going to pay for schooling online, then what is the point for them to waste all of their hard earned money on an expensive college that is just doing remote learning? Colleges should start waking up by changing pirces for classes that are just going to be online for both international and regular United States citizens who are getting an education at the college level. I don’t see the point for wasting money on a college education that is just online. College is supposed to be an experience where you can reach out to others in person and not virtually.

    • Thank you for your comment! Yes, I agree 100% with your statement, “I don’t see the point for wasting money on a college education that is just online.” Due to current circumstances, unfortunately, difficult circumstances have been placed on international students. And I think the superstition still remains present to this day of students seeking the value of a degree from a higher institution. I as well agree on your point emphasizing how colleges should reduce their tuition, there is no justification as to why colleges can’t reduce their cost of attendance if students are attending virtually. Thank you for raising these important points in your comment!

  4. It’s encouraging to hear that you learned design in design school. There are design schools and then there are design programs in schools. I’m not sure if this is legal, but it’s definitely entertaining. PapersOwl is an essay writing service that can help you finish your tasks quickly and efficiently. I’d like to draw your attention to this page, so please click to read more about the PapersOwl review. While design colleges emphasize thinking, institutions that provide design degrees concentrate on the programs that enable students to create designs.

  7. I am a student from India and am pursuing my studies in USA. I often travel to different countries and this year was no exception. While we were under quarantine, I could not even leave the building to buy a local SIM card and use my phone to at least contact my friends and relatives. It was good that at that time I came across the blog https://esim-man.com/blog/, where I learned about the electronic SIM card, which can be connected online from the comfort of my home. This was a real lifesaver for me, as it was the only way I could start using my phone again and keep in touch with my loved ones. So if you are also facing this problem, you can use this solution.

  8. You have done a great and useful job – analyzing the impact of COVID-19 is very important, fortunately it has already subsided for the moment. I am sure many people have been affected by the tightening of emigration rules. Perhaps it will be a little easier for many people if they learn about a rather convenient and most importantly free site – https://photogov.com/, where you can take a free photo for a visa and even a passport. The AI will process the photo to meet the requirements of different countries. Try it out – it’s quite an interesting resource.
