Covid-19’s Effects All Across America by Shea Duffy

In today’s world, Covid-19 is understandably a hot topic on every news station across the country. However, these news stations often fail to report on the effects the virus has had on the entire country. This blog post is an attempt to shed light on the effects and different problems the virus has caused in different places across the country as a whole.

New York is an example of a place that many news stations have focused on because of how hard it has been hit by Covid-19. The state of New York itself has the 3rd most cases of Covid-19 in the entire country (411,200) as of July 26. New York’s dense population has caused the virus to spread much more easily, which has largely contributed to a high number of deaths, as there are often not enough hospital beds or places for sick people to recover, and the state does not have enough resources to treat this many people at once.

California is a state on the west coast full of major cities and a high amount of Covid-19 cases. California currently has the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the country (446,452). However, California has taken a proactive approach to dealing with Covid-19. As of July 25th, California has administered 7,168,139 Covid-19 tests to its citizens, 15 times the amount of cases. This has led to better containment of the virus within the state over time.

Wyoming is a much different case than California and New York. Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon stated that the state is facing “the biggest fiscal crisis in our history”. The majority of Wyoming’s state budget comes from taxing their dying fossil fuel industry that has essentially come to a standstill since the virus has taken over the country. This leads to a loss in funding to almost everything in the state, most notably unemployment, education, and public health and safety.

Much like Wyoming, Mississippi is a rural state with no major cities. Mississippi, however, is located in the south. Since it is such an urban state, not as many people have contracted the virus. However, Mississippi faces a different kind of problem. Due to its low population density, many people in Mississippi don’t have close access to testing or medical aid. This has led to a death rate in Mississippi (1,713 deaths per 100,000 cases) comparable to that of New York.

  1. death rates from COVID-19 despite how different their states are. I would think that even though Mississippi may be lacking resources to treat patients and test them for the virus, they would have a much lower death rate because of how rural they are. Their lack of medical resources combined with the fact that they are located in the south, is most likely what played a role in social distancing, mask wearing, and closing down of the economy not being enforced as strongly down there as it has been in states that contain major cities. This can be seen in other states in the south such as Texas and Florida, both who are governed by Republican governors who did not take the regulations provided by the CDC to heart.

  2. I think it is really interesting how Mississippi and New York have comparable death rates from COVID-19 despite how different their states are. 5. Covid-19 is a new substance that has been in the news for its unknown effects. The drug has been found to cause some very strange side effects such as, extreme hunger, extreme thirst, and changes in personality. The drug is said to be a synthetic version of the chemical acetylcholine which is naturally produced by the human body. This chemical is a neurotransmitter that helps control things like muscle contraction, pain sensation, and memory. The drug is said to be harmless, but it is still being studied by the FDA. 6. Shea Duffy’s analysis on the varied impacts of Covid-19 across different states in America is both insightful and comprehensive. From the densely populated New York to the rural landscapes of Mississippi, the pandemic’s effects have been multifaceted. It’s particularly eye-opening to see how states like Wyoming, heavily reliant on the fossil fuel industry, face unique financial challenges. On a related note, I’ve been working on a programming research paper exploring the digital tools that can aid in pandemic response and management. I’ve been considering using https://writemyessays.com/do-my-assignment.html for some expert insights. Has anyone here tried their services? And for those closely following the pandemic’s impacts, any other unique challenges or solutions you’ve observed in different regions?
