What is Fracking?
Hydraulic fracturing also know is a “fracking” is a technique designed to recover gas and oil from shale rock.
How does it work?
Drilling down into the earth before a high-pressure water mixture is directed at the rock to release the gas inside. Water, sand and chemicals are injected into the rock at high pressure which allows the gas to flow out to the head of the well.
Fracking Awesomes
Fracking has increased the supply of natural especially for the U.S. at 65%.Increasing reliance on natural gas, rather than coal, as the burning of natural gas produces fewer harmful particles in the air.
Fracking makes countries less dependent on oil imports thus making energy cheaper for consumers.
What’s the Friction?
Fracking is an environmental cost because of It requires a huge amount of water to operate In one drill, fracking can use up to 2- 8 million gallons of water and wells fracked frequently. The constant drilling also means that local water wells are at risk . Carcinogenic chemicals used may escape and contaminate groundwater around the fracking site.
There are also worries that the fracking process can cause small earth tremors. Two small earthquakes of 1.5 and 2.2 magnitude hit the Blackpool area in 2011 following fracking.
Though fracking is an effort to provide more energy resource funding these drills can keep energy firms and governments from investing in renewable sources of energy, and encouraging continued reliance on fossil fuels.
