Automotive industries increasing gas mileage

Lets face it, gas is expensive and is not going to go down because of the lack of it. So automotive industries are going to have to start coming out with new technologies for cars that don’t only run on a gasoline internal combustion engines. Not only are they too expensive, they are bad for the environment and making the US the second largest greenhouse gas emitters on the world.

One way that the automotive industries is trying to help with these problems if hybrid cars. A hybrid car is run off of rechargeable batteries, these batteries conserve energy and reclaim it when the car breaks or if stopped. The car does have a traditional internal combustion engine as a back up and uses energy from the gasoline as well. Some people have their doubts about hybrid cars, but studies have shown that they cost just as much to maintain as a conventional car.

Hybrid cars are more expensive to buy off the bat, but the amount of money that can be saved on less gasoline, and less carbon emissions into the air can far surpass the more money the car cost initially.

Obviously we are all not going to be able to just trade in our already existing cars for hybrids, but here are several ways that we can cut back and increase out gas mileage in the mean time.

-Lightening your load in your car, don’t leave your suitcase from last weeks vacation sitting in your car because your too lazy to take it out.

-Try leaving a little earlier for work to beat the traffic, stopping and going can waste lots of gas.

-Do not sit idle in your car, if your waiting for a friend to run into the bank, turn your car off, turning it back on waste less gas than sitting there for more than 30 seconds.

-Buy gas on Wednesdays from a wholesale club. Over several years studies have proven that gas is lowest on Wednesdays, now this doesn’t mean that every Wednesday will be the cheapest, holidays and summer time gas tends to be more expensive, but for the most part, if your buying gas one a week, make it a Wednesday.

-Do not top off your tank, when your gas tank automatically stops because it is full, it really is. over filling it will lead to wasted gas.

-Using cruise control and maintaining an average speed can help save gas
