Requirements to Receive Departmental Honors in Law, Political Science, or International Relations Major
The requirements for receiving Departmental Honors in POLITICAL SCIENCE or INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS are (SEE LAW BELOW):
- 3.5 GPA in Political Science Major or International Relations Major by graduation AND overall GPA of 3.0.
- Take advanced POLS classes: Take at least 2 different 300-level, 400-level, or 500-level POLS classes taught by full-time faculty member of the Political Science & Legal Studies department.
- Write 2 papers (1 in each class): Write a major paper (research paper, policy analysis, or other approved choice) for the 300-level, 400-level, or 500-level class for a total of 2 major papers.
- Receive a high grade on both papers: A- or higher on each paper.
- Present one paper (your choice of which one) orally at the spring Student Research Conference organized by the Department of Political Science & Legal Studies. Deadline for submissions is usually in January. All papers submitted to the April conference MUST be written in any semester prior to the conference’s semester.
- Fill out the Honors Completion Form (here!) no later than on reading day of the graduating semester.
CAS Honors Program students only: All CAS Honors Program students must comply with all requirements of the CAS Honors Program in order to receive honors in Law, including the requirement to present work from the senior honors experience at the Honors Symposium or Pecha Kucha event
The requirements for receiving Departmental Honors in LAW are:
- Have a 3.5 GPA in LAWU Major by graduation AND overall GPA of 3.25 or higher.
- Take at least 20 credits of LAWU courses at Suffolk University
- Write a Major Paper: Complete a major written assignment for an honorized LAWU or an individually designed paper, supervised by a full time Law program professor through independent study.
- Receive high grade on the paper: A- or better on the paper.
- Present paper orally. You may present the paper in the honorized course with the assent and discussion of the professor OR you may present the paper at the Student Research Conference organized by the Department of Political Science & Legal Studies. Deadline for submissions is usually in January. All papers submitted to the April conference MUST be written in any semester prior to the conference’s semester.

Are you a CAS-Honors student AND a Law, Political Science, or International Relations major?
If yes, then, in order to receive CAS Honors you must complete a senior honors experience.
