What can change your relationships with your family?
Addiction can tear a family apart. Treatment can mean long-term separation. Long-term impairment can mean separation from children. A few of Hannah’s family members struggled with addiction. She looked into this cultural identity and learned about the stigma and challenges surrounding those who are looking to recover from their substance use disorder.
Lizzie is a 20 year old student at Suffolk University. She has three brothers, two of which she is a triplet with. For her identity she is exploring the relationship among siblings who are born as multiples, and how it affects individuality and competitiveness while growing up.
Erin is graduating from Suffolk University in Spring 2020. Despite issues of stigma and homophobia, Erin identifies with the LGBTQ+ community. Her family accepts her and she is supported by friends. Her sexuality is a large part of who she is and having the freedom to express this is important to her.
Distance would change a relationship with your family. Studying and living away from family at a young age can push individuals to be independent earlier than their peers. It made them appreciate the family connection more. Anh is an international student from Vietnam studying film and media. It is their 5th year studying in the US. Temporarily moving to another country to study brings a lot of interesting experiences. Through their own experiences and other students who are in the same major, Anh wants to know what is the next step.
Carina is 20 years old and a Junior at Suffolk University. Her identity that is explored in this site is that she lost her mother at a very young age. Her mother suffered from cancer, and passed away when Carina was only 2 years old. This greatly affected how she grew into the young adult that she is today.
