Professor Amy Monticello’s seminar – SF 1198 “True Crime” – visited the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, scene of the largest unsolved art heist in history. After watching the Netflix documentary This Is a Robbery about the heist, students toured the Gardner to take in its unique galleries…and study the empty frames that still hang on the walls! Along the way, the class discussed the value of art and artifact across a spectrum of value systems–criminal, historical, aesthetic, and the systems within us that art moves.
