In this lab, we had to heat up water and oil to see which substance absorbed for heat energy. We started off measuring the temperature of the water and oil at room temperature through a probe which was connected to the NXT. We then heated up a heater it was around 30 degrees C. Then we placed the two beakers onto the heater and obersved them for two minutes. After two minutes passed, we then took the temperature of the two beakers, and marked down the data into a excel sheet. Then with a formula Dr. Shatz gave us, we could caluclate the amount of heat energy that the substances had absorbed. With the data gathered from the lab experiment, we determined that the water absorbed more heat energy than the oil did, which was apparently wrong.
