Communication, Journalism, and Media Department
Students' Work Showcase
MISSION: In a diverse, increasingly interconnected world, the Communication, Journalism and Media Department educates students to be effective and ethical communicators to multiple audiences. Students develop transferable analytical, creative and practical skills in communication, journalism, and video production that enable them to advance democratic ideals and work toward social justice in governmental, non-profit, and corporate sectors.
ONE department THREE majors
The Global and Cultural Communication major provides students with an understanding of cultural differences and their influence on intercultural and intergroup relations. With a focus on issues of equity and social justice, students will develop practical skills for communicating effectively across difference and for creating positive social change.
The Journalism major enables students to develop research and interviewing skills, reporting and writing abilities, and ethical and legal knowledge to become exemplary journalists. Combining knowledge of traditional journalistic principles and new technologies, students are trained to create accurate and compelling stories across multiple platforms.
The Media/Film major helps students develop an understanding of the media’s political, social, and cultural role in societies, while simultaneously learning to become creative visual storytellers, primarily in documentary and news content, through the development of hands-on video production skills.
