The Civic Discourse Series, sponsored by Suffolk University and The Boston Athenæum, is an annual series of presentations devoted to a topic of national significance.
In its third year, the Winter 2011 series examines Immigrants in America, presenting a wide range of viewpoints around one of the most controversial and current issues of today. The Keynote event will kick off the series on February 9th with a dialogue on immigration by Maxine Hong Kingston and Gish Jen, both Chinese-American women writers who have made it their mission to spread multicultural awareness through their artistry; the series will continue in March with panel discussions on “Immigrants in Boston” (March 3 @ 6PM) and “Children of Immigrants” (March 15 @ 6PM). Events take place at the Athenæum and at Suffolk University’s Beacon Hill campus.
