Exod. 31.18

“When God finished speaking with Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the covenant, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God”

Who – God, and Moses

Where – Mt. Sinai

When – After the Israelites were wandering the desert

What – The two tablets

The author’s intent in this quote is to remind the readers of the covenant God made with the Israelites, that if you follow these laws, I will make your generations after into great nations. Here we see that the tablets are written by the “finger of God.” This word choice makes God appear to be omnipotent, but human-like at the same time. While God may be a mystical being and we do not know what he looks like, we are given hints every know and then that he has human-like qualities, such as when he made Adam in his image and in Egypt when he took the Hebrews out with a mighty hand. This helps the audience to relate better with God.
