Artists and citizens all over the globe are voicing and manifesting their concerns about environmental issues, especially climate change. The artists in the exhibit How Nature Instructs Us, are part of this chorus of concern, and use their work to express both their critique and hope for our future. They are part of a lineage of artists, writers, and scientists who have been doing so since the nineteenth century.

The work in the exhibit takes many forms, ranging from video and dance, to sculpture, photography and sound. The artists want us to take notice that nature’s instructions are also it’s warning. Our relationship to the planet mirrors our relationship to ourselves and to each other; it is for these reasons as well, that we must pay heed. The artists participating in the exhibit are part of the community of designers, builders, planners, architects, musicians, dancers, writers, and activists who express their concerns and are hopeful that their work can be an alert, a mitigation, and contribute to making the change needed for the survival of our species.

Eskimo Curlew Recording Station:

During the reception, participating artist Jane Marsching invites visitors to record imagined sounds related to the extinct bird, the Eskimo Curlew.

Ongoing:

Climate Change Learning Station:

A range of climate related information, data, articles, videos, audio, music, and poetry will be active through the run of the exhibit.
